"O Lord, what are human beings
that you regard them,
or mortals that you think of them?"
(Ps. 144:3)
Yesterday, Good Friday, we recalled the answer to the Psalmist's question,
"What are human beings that you regard them?"
Beloved friends, brothers, sisters, children of God.
Sinful and fallen, yet worth dying for.
Invaluable. Worth far more than the thirty pieces of silver for which our God was betrayed.
Worth saving, because we were worth creating, and we were not created to be lost.
All because of Divine love. Created out of that love, and redeemed by that love.
Today, a stone still lies across the front of the holy tomb of Christ. We wait, watch, and pray in anticipation of Easter's first light - the fire that will (quite literally) burn in the darkness tonight at the Easter Vigil, reminding us of the darkness dispelled by the Resurrection:
"May the light of Christ, rising in glory, dispel the darkness of our minds and hearts."
Amen. Christ, our Light... thanks be to God!
